The U City Farmers Market kicked off its 2020 season on April 18. The Market is open every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. through Nov. 14. Market-goers will find a wide selection of regional farm produce and products and local hand-crafted foods and goods.

Our market was the first farmers market to open in St Louis County with the new Covid-19 safety protocols in place. The market organizers saw the need to take action early and they implemented extra precautions to reduce the risk of exposure to our community of residents, farmers, vendors, and its own staff.

Now more than ever people need continued access to reliable sources of local food. As such farmers markets have been designated essential businesses by the Missouri Departments of Agriculture and Health and Senior Services, as well as the St Louis County Department of Public Health.

When residents arrive at market it will look different than in previous years. The community events, children’s activities and public programs have been temporarily postponed. Residents are encouraged to separate the traditionally combined social aspects of going to market from the necessity of shopping for food and goods.

Market director, Deb Henderson said “we know that many friends and families like to visit the market together. We too miss the hanging-out-for-fun part of going to market. Until we can bring those social aspects back, we encourage families to enjoy the plaza along Delmar or a stroll in the Loop with the family pet, while other family members do the shopping.”

Most farmers and vendors offer pre-order options for easy pick-up. Check out the market’s Facebook page, website or sign up for their newsletter for the latest details.
