October is “Month of Service” in University City

SHED (Safe Homes for the Elderly and Disabled), is pleased to announce 2020’s Day of Service is now a MONTH of Service in October, 2020. The event is being organized in collaboration with Our Lady of Lourdes, the University City School district, and other local churches and partners (see list below).

For over a decade SHED has helped coordinate this community-wide effort to assist seniors and disabled residents with home maintenance and repairs. Past events have drawn hundreds of volunteers to work on as many as 40 homes in one day, addressing code violations, health and safety issues, as well as supporting seniors to age in place and maintain the value of their homes.

The Month of Service will be an opportunity for volunteers to contribute to the health of neighborhoods in University City. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, SHED has created a set of guidelines for volunteer and resident safety during this event. These guidelines are listed on SHED’s website, here:

To volunteer, please email [email protected] or call (314) 782-SHED (7433). If you are unable to volunteer, but wish to contribute, you can donate HERE or mail a check payable to SHED, Inc. to PO Box 300414, University City, MO 63130. For further information please contact the email or number listed above.

If your organization would like to partner with SHED on this or future events, please contact Mimi Taylor-Hendrix, Chair of the Community Outreach Committee, at 314-600-5426.
