In 1923, University City opened its earliest parks and the Lewis, Heman, Flynn and Eastgate Parks debuted. Today, there are more than a dozen developed parks offering activities for everyone to stroll, roll, play, picnic, relax, enjoy sports and the arts, and to simply come together as a community.
Celebrate the kick-off of the centennial celebration on Sun., Apr. 16 at 1p.m. in Ruth Park Woods. The event hosted by the U City Parks Centennial Committee, The Green Center and U City in Bloom will celebrate the parks’ history and the restoration of Ruth Park Woods.
Guests can enjoy tours of the woods by volunteers, view A Year in the Life of the Woods by Byron Sletten and explore one of our beautiful parks. The event is free and open for all to attend.
If you would like to participate in a tour of the woods, event organizers are asking guests to bring a water bottle and wear walking shoes. The 1.2mile trail (2.4miles out and back) is not paved or graveled.
Parking will be available at Brittany Woods Middle School, 8125 Groby Rd. Guests are asked to enter the event through the east side of the Ruth Park Golf Course on Groby Road.
These are your parks! Join us in the parks to celebrate!
