Fitness training was just a side gig for Abby Erker of Richmond Heights until she noticed a pattern among many of her clients: They wanted advice about working out during and after pregnancy — but not as a means of getting back their six-pack abs.

Colleen Fitzsimmons-Wiviott of St. Louis had a new baby boy when she met Erker during a pop-up class almost two years ago. Erker had recently developed the Materra Method, a combination of barre, Pilates and therapy exercises that strengthen abdominal and pelvic floor muscles.

‘I was looking for different things than before I had children,’ says Fitzsimmons-Wiviott.
